This course discusses the pathophysiology, clinical presentation, and evidence-based pharmacologic management of gout, with emphasis on therapeutic goals, medication selection, safety considerations, and monitoring strategies. You will gain practical tools to optimize medication use, support adherence, and provide patient-centered counseling to improve outcomes in individuals living with gout.

Learning Objectives

Upon successful completion of this application-based CPE course, pharmacists should be able to:
1. Describe the pathophysiology, clinical manifestations, and overall disease burden associated with gout.
2. Summarize evidence-based pharmacologic treatment options for gout, including mechanisms of action, place in therapy, and therapeutic goals.
3. Design a patient-specific medication management plan for a patient with gout that ensures appropriate therapy selection, safe administration, adherence support, monitoring, and patient counseling.
