Vax Facts: Navigating Legal Issues of Pharmacy-Based Immunizations

This course examines legal issues associated with the administration of immunizations by pharmacy personnel. Legal controversies are discussed, such as refusal by pharmacists to administer immunizations, liability for harm caused by vaccines and vaccine administration, the importance of adherence to pharmacy protocols, and potential legal consequences for violating vaccine administration protocols.

Upon successful completion of this knowledge-based CPE course, pharmacists should be able to:
1. Discuss available recourse for pharmacy personnel who are dismissed from employment based on their refusal to administer vaccinations.
2. Review legal claims for compensation made by patients following a pharmacy’s administration of a vaccine that allegedly caused harm to a patient.
3. Describe the legal consequences for pharmacy personnel who fail to comply with pharmacy policies related to the administration of immunizations.
