True Grit: Developing a Philosophy of Failure
Failure is a universal part of the human experience.
Grit, or the ability to demonstrate tenacity, perseverance, resilience, and gumption in the face of failure, is a learned skill.
Success often requires both failure and grit.
This course helps us understand the causes of failure, the value of keeping a “failure resume”, and action steps to respond positively to failure to increase the likelihood of success for ourselves and those we mentor.
Upon successful completion of this knowledge-based CPE course, pharmacy preceptors should be able to:
1. Define grit and explain its role in responding positively to failure.
2. Provide examples of achievements that were preceded by failure.
3. List and explain the causes of failure.
4. Explain the value of keeping a failure resume.
5. List and explain action steps for responding positively to failure.
