Biosimilar Basics [Technician]
Biosimilar medications are one way to reduce the rising cost of healthcare, particularly in the area of oncology. This course provides a description of biosimilar medications and how they are approved by the FDA, as well as important information that will help you, as a pharmacy technician, collaborate with pharmacists to provide these medications to patients.
Upon successful completion of this knowledge-based CPE course, pharmacy technicians should be able to:
1. Define key terminology related to biosimilar products.
2. Explain the FDA’s process for developing, reviewing, and approving biosimilars.
3. Recognize the impact of biosimilars on patients, payers, providers, and pharmacies in hematology/oncology practice.
4. Collaborate with a pharmacist to develop a process to be more involved in substituting biosimilars.
