As pharmacy technician responsibilities expand, the exposure to malpractice liability for errors also expands. This course discusses examples of how to mitigate that liability in situations such as controlled substances, extemporaneous compounding, and professionalism.

Learning Objectives

Upon successful completion of this knowledge-based CPE course, pharmacy technicians should be able to:
1. Articulate an appropriate response to a suspicious order for a controlled substance medication communicated to the pharmacy for a longstanding patient.
2. Identify effective policies and procedures for extemporaneous compounding to avoid liability for product contamination.
3. Describe a culture of professionalism within the technician-patient relationship to address public misunderstandings of the pharmacy technician role.
