Effective precepting plays a critical role in shaping the next generation of pharmacy professionals and creating meaningful experiential learning opportunities. This course discusses foundational preceptor responsibilities, adult learning principles, learner engagement strategies, rotation design, student assessment, and techniques for delivering effective feedback using the SBI-R framework. You will gain practical strategies to create supportive, structured, and impactful rotation experiences that promote student growth, confidence, professionalism, and clinical problem-solving skills.

Learning Objectives

Upon successful completion of this Application-based CPE course, pharmacy preceptors should be able to:
1. Describe the roles, responsibilities, and characteristics of effective pharmacy preceptors.
2. Discuss principles of adult learning and teaching strategies that support student engagement and clinical skill development.
3. Develop structured rotation experiences that promote learner growth, professionalism, and progressive independence.
4. Differentiate teaching approaches used to support learners at varying stages of knowledge and skill development.
5. Apply the SBI-R framework to provide constructive feedback during common preceptor–student interactions.
