HIV PEP and PrEP are complex conditions that can significantly affect patient outcomes, quality of life, and long-term health if not managed appropriately. This course discusses clinical presentation and evidence-based pharmacologic management of HIV PEP and PrEP, with emphasis on therapeutic goals, medication selection, safety considerations, and monitoring strategies. You will gain practical tools to optimize medication use, support adherence, and provide patient-centered counseling to improve outcomes in individuals living with HIV PEP and PrEP.

Learning Objectives

Upon successful completion of this application-based CPE course, pharmacists should be able to:

1. Describe the clinical manifestations and overall disease burden associated with HIV PEP and PrEP.

2. Summarize evidence-based pharmacologic treatment options for HIV PEP and PrEP, including place in therapy and therapeutic goals. 

3. Design a patient-specific medication management plan for a patient with HIV PEP and PrEP that ensures appropriate therapy selection, safe administration, adherence support, monitoring, and patient counseling.
