This course provides a comprehensive exploration of the Occupational Safety and Health Administration’s (OSHA) Bloodborne Pathogens Standard within the context of pharmacy practice. Students will gain a thorough understanding of infection control measures, universal precautions, and regulatory compliance, empowering them to safeguard themselves and others from bloodborne pathogens in the pharmacy setting.

Learning Objectives

Upon successful completion of this course, learners should be able to:
1. Outline the requirements for pharmacy teams and pharmacies to comply with the OSHA Bloodborne Pathogens Standard.
2. Identify common bloodborne pathogens, the potential for exposure, and routes of transmission.
3. Describe an effective exposure control plan (ECP) to minimize the risk of bloodborne pathogen transmission.
4. Explain work practices that can minimize risks of exposure.
5. Discuss Hepatitis B virus vaccination requirements for healthcare workers.
