Pharmacists and pharmacy technicians have a critical role in the national efforts to reduce the illegal production of methamphetamine in the United States. The Combat Methamphetamine Epidemic Act of 2005 tasks pharmacy associates with abiding by rules that regulate the sale of over-the-counter pseudoephedrine and ephedrine products, drugs that are used in illegal methamphetamine manufacturing.

Upon successful completion of this knowledge-based course, learners should be able to:
1. Recognize the role of pseudoephedrine and ephedrine in methamphetamine production and explain current trends.
2. Identify the dangers methamphetamine abuse has on the individual and society.
3. Discuss valid patient identification process for the purchase of pseudoephedrine and ephedrine products.
4. Demonstrate understanding of pharmacy record-keeping for pseudoephedrine and ephedrine purchases.
5. Evaluate pseudoephedrine and ephedrine federal purchase limits.
