LGBTQ Cultural Competence: Improving Care to the LGBTQ Community [Technicians]

The course addresses the health disparities of LGBTQ individuals, based on the social determinants of health, including barriers to accessing care, lack of routine SOGI data collection, discrimination, and lack of provider knowledge about LGBTQ health. Concrete steps to improve the welcome to this population will be offered.

Upon successful completion of this knowledge-based course, pharmacy technicians should be able to:
1) Recognize the importance of identifying LGBTQ patients/clients
2) Identify benefits of valuing the diversity within the LGBTQ community
3) Explain the link between discrimination and health
4) Discuss specific health disparities within the LGBTQ community
5) Describe strategies to improve communication with LGBTQ patients/clients
