Clearing the Air: An Update on Respiratory Viruses

This course provides pharmacists with insights into the pathophysiology and epidemiology of Respiratory Syncytial Virus (RSV) infection and the current epidemiology of influenza, COVID-19, and long-COVID. Course content will explore preventative strategies to mitigate complications for each of these respiratory viruses and review the latest updates in vaccine recommendations. Through interactive case discussions, learners will apply the pharmacist patient care process to real-world scenarios and be equipped to deliver optimal patient care and guidance for common respiratory viruses.

Upon successful completion of this application-based CPE course, pharmacists should be able to:
1. Explain the pathophysiology and epidemiology of respiratory syncytial virus (RSV) infection.
2. Describe effective preventative measures to reduce complications of RSV infection.
3. Discuss the current epidemiology of COVID-19, including Long COVID.
4. Review the latest epidemiology and vaccine recommendations for influenza.
5. Apply the pharmacist patient care process to a patient case focused on respiratory viruses.
