A Preceptor’s Guide to Handling Microaggressions

A Preceptor’s Guide to Handling Microaggressions

A microaggression can include verbal, behavioral, or environmental aggressions that negatively communicate about race, culture, or gender. They can be intentional or unintentional, but can negatively impact healthcare interactions. This course uses cases to discuss ways preceptors can provide support for students and provide a psychologically safe environment in the presence of microaggressions.

Upon successful completion of this knowledge-based CPE course, pharmacy preceptors should be able to:
1. Recognize microaggressions in an experiential setting.
2. Discuss strategies to create effective dialogue when responding to microaggressions.
3. Utilizing case-based scenarios, discuss potential responses while providing a psychologically safe environment.
