Who can serve as your healthcare buddy?
A pharmacist or another healthcare professional who is certified to immunize.

Pharmacists
Attend a 30 minute live workshop where you’ll demonstrate your injection technique on your healthcare buddy.

Pharmacy Technicians
Attend a 2-hour live workshop. There, you’ll review the immunization injection process and then demonstrate your injection technique on your pharmacist healthcare buddy.

Who can serve as my Healthcare Buddy?
Pharmacists: A pharmacist or another healthcare professional who is certified to immunize can serve as your Healthcare Buddy. Pharmacy Technicians: Your Healthcare Buddy must be a pharmacist immunizer and they must attend the live workshop with you.   You will be required to administer two immunizations containing normal saline to your Healthcare Buddy using proper immunization administration technique in order to complete the full course and receive your certificate of completion. If your Healthcare Buddy prefers to not receive the injections, another volunteer may receive the injections instead. However, your Healthcare Buddy will still need to be present with you to observe the demonstration of the two injections.
What is the process for the virtual workshop?

Pharmacists:

1. Show your CPE Monitor Statement of Credit to your CEimpact trainer to confirm you’ve completed the home study portion of the course
(If you need assistance accessing your statement of credit, click here for guidance)
2. Review the supply list to ensure you have everything that will be needed
3. Complete the immunization documentation form with guidance from the trainer
4. Draw up the saline in the needles that will be used for the injections
5. Talk through the process you will use to identify the proper locations and techniques for each of the injections
6. Perform the injections on your Healthcare Buddy
7. Articulate post-injection counseling points

Upon successful completion, you will receive instructions to return to the CEimpact LMS to receive credit for the live training. You will be emailed your certificate of completion 7-10 days following completion of the virtual assessment evaluation.

 

Pharmacy Technicians:

Will I actually be injecting my Healthcare Buddy?

Yes! In order to demonstrate your administration technique, you will administer two injections of saline to your Healthcare Buddy:

1) Subcutaneous (subq)

2) Intramuscular (IM)

If your Healthcare Buddy prefers to not receive the injections, another volunteer may receive the injections instead. However, your Healthcare Buddy will still need to be present with you to observe the demonstration of the two injections.

How can I obtain the needed supplies?

Supplies may frequently be obtained through your pharmacy employer. 

Can I use something else besides sterile saline?

No. Since you will be injecting your Healthcare Buddy, you must use sterile saline.
