Technician Law | Patient Safety Written 1h

Frequent computer alerts that may over-emphasize minor risks and under-emphasize major risks to patients tend to produce alert fatigue. They can promote a perspective that since all drugs have adverse effects, it’s not critical to resolve them. This course discusses strategies for effective management of computer alerts, identifying those that should be addressed to reduce legal liability exposure.

Learning Objectives

Upon successful completion of this knowledge-based CPE course, pharmacy technicians should be able to:
1. Describe the challenges presented by alert fatigue in pharmacy.
2. Review the legal responsibilities of pharmacists to appropriately address computer alerts regarding potential risks to a patient.
3. Discuss policies for the appropriate management of computer alerts to reduce exposure to legal liability.
