Expansion of the pharmacist’s role in practice requires expansion of the pharmacy technician’s role. This course explores how appropriate training and supervision of pharmacy technicians can lead to quality pharmacy operations and reduce legal liability for technicians, pharmacists, the Pharmacist-in-Charge, and the pharmacy.

Learning Objectives

Upon successful completion of this knowledge-based CPE course, pharmacists should be able to:
1. Describe the legal responsibilities of pharmacy technicians in their role of supporting pharmacists in the provision of pharmaceutical products and services.
2. Explain how pharmacies can be held legally liable for harm to patients based on an error committed by a pharmacy technician.
3. Describe a program in which pharmacy technicians would be adequately trained and supervised to reduce pharmacy exposure to legal liability.
