Technician Compliance On-Demand 1 credit hour

In spite of longstanding guidelines in the handling of hazardous drugs (HD), healthcare worker exposure to HD persists. This course is designed to educate pharmacists and pharmacy technicians who work in the community pharmacy setting on proper HD handling and disposal. Join us to review relevant legislation and describe how to develop site specific HD lists as well as effective policies and procedures. Key considerations in the safe receiving, storage, dispensing, and disposal of HD, as well as appropriate response to exposure incidents, will also be discussed.

Learning Objectives

Upon successful completion of this course, participants should be able to:
1. List current guidelines and legislation governing the handling and disposal of hazardous drugs (HD).
2. Identify hazardous drugs commonly encountered in community pharmacy settings for inclusion in a site-specific HD inventory.
3. Discuss potential risks associated with occupational exposure to hazardous drugs.
4. Explain best practices for receiving, storing, dispensing, managing spills, and disposing of hazardous drugs in community pharmacy settings.
5. Execute appropriate procedures for responding to potential staff exposure to hazardous drugs.
