Inflammatory Bowel Disease (IBD) is a complex condition that can significantly affect patient outcomes, quality of life, and long-term health if not managed appropriately. This course discusses the pathophysiology, clinical presentation, and evidence-based pharmacologic management of IBD, with emphasis on therapeutic goals, medication selection, safety considerations, and monitoring strategies. You will gain practical tools to optimize medication use, support adherence, and provide patient-centered counseling to improve outcomes in individuals living with IBD.

Learning Objectives

Upon successful completion of this application-based CPE course, pharmacists should be able to:
1. Describe the pathophysiology, clinical manifestations, and overall disease burden associated with Inflammatory Bowel Disease (IBD).
2. Summarize evidence-based pharmacologic treatment options for IBD, including mechanisms of action, place in therapy, and therapeutic goals.
3. Design a patient-specific medication management plan for a patient with IBD that ensures appropriate therapy selection, safe administration, adherence support, monitoring, and patient counseling.
