When Can a Pharmacist Decline a Prescription? (Pharmacist)
Pharmacists are allowed to decline filling a prescription for appropriate reasons. This course examines reasons pharmacists may or must decline filling a prescription that has been presented, and how it should be handled to minimize legal implications.
Upon successful completion of this knowledge-based CPE course, pharmacists should be able to:
1. Classify the reasons why a pharmacist might decline a prescription.
2. Evaluate the appropriateness of a pharmacist’s dispensing of a medication that a litigant contends should have been declined by the pharmacist.
3. Formulate a policy for accepting or declining prescriptions that present potential legal challenges.
