Optimizing Mental Health Care

Optimizing Mental Health Care
Nearly one in five adults lives with a mental illness and nearly one in twenty lives with a serious mental illness. Because of this, pharmacy practitioners in all practice areas are likely to encounter patients living with a mental illness. Join us to learn the most pertinent information you need to know when caring for patients with mental illness.
Upon successful completion of this knowledge-based CPE course, pharmacy technicians should be able to:
1. Discuss the epidemiology of commonly encountered mental illnesses, the DSM-V diagnostic criteria, and appropriate screening tools
2. Explain legal considerations for individuals with mental illness, including civil and forensic commitments, involuntary psychiatric holds, and the role of community mental health centers
3. Recognize opportunities for interventions and special considerations when providing care for individuals with mental illness
