Identifying Human Trafficking in the Pharmacy Setting (Technician)

Identifying Human Trafficking in the Pharmacy Setting (Technician)

Human Trafficking, often called modern day slavery, is a growing issue. Many mistakenly feel this problem happens only in other countries, but human trafficking occurs every day in the United States. A large percentage of victims are seen by a health care provider during their captivity but are not identified. As the most accessible member of the health care team, pharmacy providers need to be aware of the human trafficking issue and learn how to identify and support victims.

Upon successful completion of this knowledge-based course, technicians should be able to:
1. Define and describe the types of human trafficking
2. Describe the role of the pharmacy professional in the identification, recognition, and support of a victim of human trafficking
3. Recognize signs or behaviors that can identify a human trafficking victim in the pharmacy setting
4. Develop interviewing and questioning skills to assist in communication and identification of possible human trafficking victims
5. Identify resources available for human trafficking victims and appropriate reporting strategies
