Antimicrobial Stewardship: The Role of the Pharmacy Team
Antimicrobial Stewardship is now required by the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services and the Joint Commission. This course focuses on the core principles of antimicrobial stewardship and strategies that can be utilized to engage and improve antimicrobial use among patients and providers.
Upon successful completion of this knowledge-based CPE course, pharmacists should be able to:
1. Identify core goals of an antimicrobial stewardship program and the activities/elements that can be used to support achieving these goals
2. Summarize the Joint Commission and Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services requirements for antimicrobial stewardship within a health system or long-term care facility
3. Identify the role of detailed medication allergy histories and promotion of vaccines in better managing antimicrobial utilization
4. Analyze your current practice setting to determine what antimicrobial stewardship practices could be implemented
