Are you ready for flu season? With the overwhelming amount of immunization changes the past couple of years, this is a great chance to review the latest ACIP recommendations on adult and childhood vaccines. We’ll make sure you’re ready by reviewing the current guidelines, schedules, and regulations. Attend this Update before you kick off flu season in your pharmacy!
Upon successful completion of this application-based CPE course, pharmacy technicians should be able to:
1. List the common vaccinations and their schedules
2. Recall the appropriate preparation, administration, and documentation procedures for immunizations
3. Recognize vaccine adverse reactions and how to handle them
4. Discuss the role of the pharmacy technician in increasing vaccination rates in the community
5. Discuss the 2023 Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices (ACIP) recommendations regarding adult and pediatric immunizations, including the Respiratory Syncytial Virus (RSV) vaccine
6. Summarize the COVID-19 vaccine recommendations based on the most recent guidance
7. Review influenza vaccine considerations such as nomenclature, characteristics, schedule, contraindications, and precautions in preparation for the upcoming influenza season
8. Examine a patient’s immunization history to assist the pharmacist in determining appropriate vaccine recommendations based on the appropriate immunization schedule
9. Discuss the federal PREP act and how it impacts pharmacy technician vaccine administration authority
