Has this happened to you? You get a letter in the mail from your state board of pharmacy. You panic a bit as it seems so official (we all do it, right?). You open the letter and see “License Renewal” across the top. They want money and your list of CE hours. Easy enough! Then you panic again. “Do I have enough hours? Are they in the right categories? How much CE do I still need and how much time do I have?”
It happens to all of us, but why? We’re professionals after all – committed to lifelong learning because what we learned in pharmacy school only scratched the surface of what we need to know to take care of our patients. So why does it seem like such a chore?
Maybe because we’ve made it a chore. We say we “have” to do CE because it is either
b) not relevant to our practice
d) all of the above!
But what if it didn’t have to be any of those things? What if your learning was a habit – part of your everyday life – and bonus: you never stressed about having enough hours again!
I challenge us – all of us - to reframe our thinking about lifelong learning.
We’re professionals - the medication experts. We take care of patients, collaborate with prescribers, and make medication recommendations every day. Those patients and prescribers are counting on us to know our stuff.
As you think about the new year, let’s make a commitment to each other to make learning a habit. Learn something new every day. Find your “go to” place to get information and education that keeps your drug therapy knowledge sharp. Never have that "do I have enough CE?" feeling again.
CEImpact has some things that will help you make learning a habit every week and every month. We take the guesswork out of it by sending it directly to you. But if that doesn’t meet your needs, just find something that works for you. Tackle your lifelong learning in 2020. Your patients, prescribers, and non-panicked you will thank you.
What do you say? Are you in? 2020 – Committed to Make Lifelong Learning a Habit
